Winter Weather Advisory Lasts To Evening Today

The National Weather Service in Buffalo issued a winter weather advisory lasting to 6 p.m. this evening. The advisory is for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and southern Erie counties. Certain areas could see between 4 to 8 inches of snow. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow. “Travel could be very difficult,” the weather service said. “Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”

Blood Drive To Be Held Friday

FALCONER — An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Levant Wesleyan Church, 1670 Lindquist Drive, Falconer. The American Red Cross currently has a critical need for blood donors of all blood types — especially type O. To make an appointment, use the Red Cross Blood Donor App at www.redcrossblood.org/blood-donor-app.html, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 800-733-2767. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

School Board To Meet Monday

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point School Board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in the Maple Grove Middle-High School cafeteria on Dutch Hollow Road. The public is welcome to attend.

Marco Polo Club To Host Dinner

The Marco Polo Club, 1027 E. Second St., Jamestown, will host a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4-7 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. The public is welcome to attend, and carryouts will be available.

Retired Sociology Professor To Present Speech

Dr. Jeffrey Victor, retired JCC professor of sociology, will present a speech about the question of why people help or harm others, at the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation, 1255 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown, on Sunday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. His speech is designed to provoke people’s thinking on human nature. Victor’s speech is a product of many decades of teaching social psychology courses about crime and about love. It will begin by examining several local murder cases and a case of the murder of a child by Nazi soldiers during World War II. Then, the speech will examine evidence for the biological and social origins of empathy and psychopathy.

Panama Village Board To Meet

PANAMA — The Panama Village Board’s next meeting has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14. The public is welcome to attend.
