Back To School Special Is Set At Thrift Shop

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St., Jamestown, is having a back to school special. All houseware is half off. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The thrift shop is now open Saturdays during the fall/winter months.

YMCA To Offer Lifeguard Class

The Jamestown YMCA will be offering an American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding class beginning Saturday from 1-6 p.m. and will continue for four consecutive Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students must attend all classes. All participants will need to successfully complete the pre-test to be permitted to take the course. The pre-test includes a 550 yard swim, recovering a brick, collecting submerged rings and treading water. The pre-test will be the first part of class on Saturday. The cost for the class is $235 for YMCA members and $285 for potential members. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be certified in American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, first aid, CPR-PR and AED. Diversity Program Slated For Sun.

A “Sample the Diversity of our City” event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at The Sheldon House, located at 9 Falconer St. There will be food from the city’s Hispanic, Filipino, Italian, Swedish, Polish, Indian and American restaurants and communities available to sample in an effort to recognize and celebrate the diversity of Jamestown.

School Board To Meet Monday

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point School Board will meet Monday in the Maple Grove Middle-High School cafeteria. An executive session will be held at 5:30 immediately followed by the regular meeting. The public is welcome to attend.

Chess Club Sets Sept. 12 Event

The Tamerlane Chess Club is hosting an outdoor chess event at Celoron Park on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5-7:30 p.m.

Sewer Board Will Meet Tuesday

MAYVILLE — The North Chautauqua Lake Sewer District Board will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday at 2 Academy St., Mayville, in the Chautauqua town meeting room. The board will discuss the contract between the district and the Chautauqua Utility District. The public is welcome to attend.

Bible Study To Be Held Sept. 16

KIANTONE — A weekly Bible study on the Gospel of John led by Pastor Mel McGinnis will begin on Monday, September 16, at 11 a.m. at the Kiantone Congregational Church, 646 Kiantone Road. The verse-by-verse study will cover the purpose and major themes of the book, the unique “I Am’s” of Jesus, the events and miracles recorded in the gospel and the emphasis Jesus places on life vs. death, light vs. darkness, and truth vs. lie. The study offers ample opportunity for discussion and questions.
