Mayville Pharmacy Expands Services

TORONTO – Leslie D. Johnson, RPh, from Mayville recently became a recent graduate of the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine located in Toronto. The college was founded in 1994 and has graduated hundreds of homeopathic students both in Canada and the United States. CCHM is the only Canadian college fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Homeopathic Education in North America.

Johnson is a registered pharmacist who graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown Community College and Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1982. She has experience in many areas of the profession including both retail environments: chain and independent stores, hospital and institutional pharmacy, as well as compounding. She and her husband Steven opened their own store – Johnson’s Village Pharmacy – in 2002 that specializes in natural and alternative products in addition to traditional pharmacy services.

Homeopathy is a 200-year-old science of medicine that is used extensively in Europe, Canada, India, and the pacific northwest of the United States. It is the fastest growing form of alternative medicine in the world today. The Nutrition Business Journal reports that “U.S. consumer sales of Homeopathic treatments reached $870 million in 2009, growing 10 percent over the previous year.”

Furthermore, the World Health Organization states that homeopathy is the second most used medical system internationally. This is supported by the fact that more than 500 physicians and 5,000 non-physicians in the United States currently use homeopathy in clinical practice, and 2.5 million Americans currently use homeopathic medicines.

With the addition of this degree in homeopathy, Johnson will be adding Homeopathic-Based Health Consultations to the services offered by Johnson’s Village Pharmacy. She also teaches classes in homeopathy, the next course beginning in early October. Johnson’s Village Pharmacy has an extensive supply of homeopathic remedies and mails them worldwide. The store is located at 99 E. Chautauqua St. in Mayville. Call the pharmacy at 753-3200 to learn more about classes, to buy remedies, or to schedule an appointment.
