Lovin’ Our Libraries Road Trip Was A Gas For Local Residents

To the Readers’ Forum: We would like to thank the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Library System for their Lovin’ Our Libraries CCLS Road Trip running from June 1 to August 31, 2023. We have currently visited over two-thirds of the 38 libraries in the two counties. What a good time we have had, and we are not finished yet. The beautiful and historic libraries and the helpful and engaging library personnel have made every library visit worthwhile. To the Readers’ Forum: The Post-Journal may be overwhelmed with requests for copies of the Saturday-Sunday newspaper (July 1-2, 2023). Gerald E. Scorse wrote so beautifully regarding the nearly “old way”of reading the newspaper. Some of us exposed to the “new way” of grabbing a “squawk-box” to get correspondence wonder how can it be pleasant and can it always be accurate? And - enjoyable. It all seems so tense. Can County Afford The Pay Raises It Is Approving?

To The Reader’s Forum: I am really so very happy for the labor leaders of Chautauqua County who have negotiated a huge payday increase over the next four years for our county rank and file unionized workers. As for County Executive PJ Wendel who continues to freely give away the taxpayer dollars, I just shake my head. I do appreciate that PJ does not come from a history of managing and obviously does yet understand his role to protect the taxpayers. To the Readers’ Forum: “There’s nothing more we can do.” The above comment can be credited to John Cornryn, Republican senator from Texas. Cornryn made that comment following the gun deaths of three school children and three adults in Nashville recently. Cornryn and fellow Republican Senator Ted Cruz feel that the GOP can do nothing more to keep our children safe from gun violence. In other words, their hands are tied. To The Reader’s Forum: Cummins Engine Co. recently announced a major new investment at their Jamestown Engine Plant. It’s been nearly 40 years since we all became aware of Cummins and their potential of achieving the status of a great local company. The initial attraction and the retention of Cummins has a litany of stories around both challenges to locating and then keeping them in the 1,000,000 square foot plant in the town of Busti.
