Former Coach Requests An End To Running Up The Score In Soccer Games

To The Reader’s Forum: I am asking all high school soccer coaches to rethink the policy of allowing scores like 10 or 12 to nothing to happen. In order to start soccer in this county and in Cattaraugus County the coaches really worked together back in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. I could give you many many examples but not running up the score would be just one of them. I know the old argument about Jeff scoring the only goal of his career in one of those lopsided games but I doubt it made him happy for more than a few minutes. Rodeos Serve No Useful Purpose

To The Reader’s Forum: If people taking part in or attending an event — a rodeo — that glorifies animals being spurred, roped, slammed to the ground, being strapped with bucking straps, or their necks violently twisted is something to be celebrated, I think it is time to give pause. Actually, it is sick and depraved, in my opinion, much like the gladiator events in ancient Rome. Small Town Values Under Attack

To The Reader’s Forum: If a violent mob was attempting to burn your neighbors house down would you stop them? If they sucker punched somebody on a sidewalk or attempted to car jack an old lady would you step in? If you reside in a small town the answer is a simple one, of course you would without hesitation. To The Reader’s Forum: Come on Jamestown. In response to The Post-Journal’s recent editorial concerning the Department of Development’s new Code Violation laws, I offer the following thoughts. I am definitely in favor of the new law that a Code enforcement officer is able issue fines to residents that do not comply with the regulations of the City Code. Jamestown has laws concerning upkeep of properties. Enforcing these laws is a long process. People who receive violations ignore them. Letters are sent giving time for compliance.
