To the Readers’ Forum: “There’s nothing more we can do.” The above comment can be credited to John Cornryn, Republican senator from Texas. Cornryn made that comment following the gun deaths of three school children and three adults in Nashville recently. Cornryn and fellow Republican Senator Ted Cruz feel that the GOP can do nothing more to keep our children safe from gun violence. In other words, their hands are tied. To The Reader’s Forum: Jeff Winton’s article “Disappointed with Disaffiliation” sadly misrepresents the true reason for several churches in Chautauqua County leaving the United Methodist Church. The LGBTQ+ is not the main reason for disaffiliation. These churches are not “opposed to the teaching of Jesus.” Everyone is welcomed in their churches. They may not fly flags and paint their entrance with a rainbow, but it doesn’t mean all people are not welcome. To The Reader’s Forum: One might think COVID would have made people more conscious of health and hygiene and maybe even a little more considerate in their public behavior. Apparently not. Yesterday, right in front of me, going in a local supermarket, also known as a food store, an old woman plunked her long haired dog right in the basket part of the grocery cart.
