Trump Campaign Remains About Legal Issues, Not The Issues

To The Reader’s Forum:

You can tell when the facts presented in the latest indictment of Donald Trump resonate with reality among his supporters. For example, Julie Kelly, a Trump apologist on Twitter simply wrote, “Btw this indictment is poorly written and nothing more than a rehash of the J6 select committee.” In other words, she does not disagree with either the facts in the indictment or the findings of the “J6 select committee”. Her tweet is a reflection of the reality of what led up to and what happened on January 6, 2021. I can understand her desire to reject reality, especially when reality doesn’t conform to her way of thinking and what she really wants. (When I worked as an employee representative, it was hard to accept the reality of unfavorable decisions.)

I have “long” called for the DOJ to seek accountability of Trump’s actions related to “J6”. Rehashing the J6 committee findings, with some additions, makes me wonder what took the DOJ so long, however, I understand that holding Trump accountable, hopefully timely related to the 2024 elections, is their goal and for that I am pleased. It will be hard, however, to accept the “reality” should Trump be acquitted of charges!

I hope people understand that Trump’s candidacy for president is to allow him to “weaponize” the government to his advantage to 1) quash federal indictments that could put him in jail, 2) change/ignore procedures to allow him to remain in power indefinitely, and 3) make money. His primary issue is to talk about his legal woes and rake in money to pay legal fees – legal issues that he created, and he benefits from.

Trump doesn’t care about voters’ issues! He hasn’t said he would create jobs, lower healthcare costs, save Social Security, improve our infrastructure, work on comprehensive immigration reform, etc. things that most Americans support. Even on emotional issues such as government intrusion into your private life Trump has no position. No wonder Trump has chosen to avoid “debating” other Republicans! No wonder his “defense” is to perpetuate – double down on – the “big lie” that got him in legal trouble in the first place.

He only suggests “you” are the reason he’s been indicted. Well, did you illegally take “top secret” documents? Did you illegally try to stop Congress from certifying election results? Of course not! Think about it.
