Genealogical Society Meets Aug. 17

WESTFIELD — The annual picnic of the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Ottoway Park,8000 Route 5, Westfield. The Park is approximately eight-10ths mile east of Barcelona, across from the KOA campground. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service. You may also bring your own individual meal for yourself and your family. Meal begins at 5:30. Water and coffee will be provided. The pavilion is screened in. All are invited. Todd Langworthy, town of Pomfret Historian, will provide a power-point presentation on the life and influence of Dr. Squire White, a prominent early settler in our area. He was a physician, teacher, businessman and all around good person. With the recent news of the purchase of the White Inn in Fredonia, which bears Squire White’s name, he will shed some light on the life of the man who made Fredonia his home for most of his life. Speaker will be after the meal, approximately 6:30. Marvin House Luncheon Aug. 18

There is going to be a Marvin House membership and guests luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 18 at noon. Featured speaker attorney Dana Lundberg from Lundberg Price P.C. will present “Protecting Your Private Information.” One of the primary areas of focus for the law firm includes education. A key mission of the Marvin House is Education for the community. The luncheon will catered by Elegant Edibles featuring Vickie’s famous chicken dinner. Reservations are required by Monday, Aug. 15. Education To Meet

RIPLEY — A regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Ripley Central School District will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria of the Ripley Central School for the purpose of any and all items that come before the board.

Blood Drive To Take Place On Wednesday

The Community Blood Bank of NWPA & WNY will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock St., Jamestown. Over the past several weeks, the number of donors showing up each day has decreased, creating a struggle to meet the needs of local hospitals. Summer months are impacted by a 25% reduction in donations that are provided by local high school and college blood drives. Call 814-456-4206 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows.
