Parks, Rec Panel Cancels Meeting

The Jamestown Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department announced that today’s meeting of the city Riverfront Management Council has been canceled.

JHS Classes To Hold Reunion

Jamestown High School classes 1965 and 1966 are having a combined reunion on Aug. 28 at the Double Tree Inn in Jamestown. It is one night only and is a no-charge event. ‘Healthy Cents’ To Begin May 14

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s nutrition educators Heather Gregory and Trish Dragoo will host “Healthy Cents” at the Audubon Community Nature Center from 1 to 2 p.m. Fridays, starting May 14 and ending July 2. Topics will include making healthy and affordable food choices, reducing food expenses, developing a food spending plan, planning a meal and saving money on healthy food shopping. The program is free, and each session will also include a new recipe for attendees to taste and a copy of the recipe to take home. $359K Funding

Approved For Head Start

More than $359,000 in supplemental emergency Head Start funding has been secured to foster productive learning and ensure all students have access to childhood education programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal funding was allocated through the Administration for Children & Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and will support the needs of children in low-income families while adhering to COVID-19 standards in Western New York. Specifically, these funds can be used for mental health services and crisis response, additional classroom staff to meet social distancing standards, personnel costs, the delivery of meals to children in a remote settings, sanitization supplies, and more. Locally, Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. will receive $157,106.

Cemetery Sets Memorial Service

The Allen Cemetery will hold its Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 23. The service will take place at the Allen Cemetery located on Willard Street Extension. Karyn Okerlund, president of the cemetery association, will be the speaker this year. The American Legion Henry Mosher Post 638 will also participate in the service. Due to COVID-19 concerns, there will be no refreshments served afterward.
