Rotary Club Cancels Golf Tournament

The Jamestown Rotary Golf Committee chair person, Mike Bird, has announced the cancellation of what was to be the 26th annual Rotary Golf tournament at MoonBrook Country Club. Every year the tournament benefits our local community as well as international Rotary projects involving youth and the health and welfare of people of all nations. “The golf committee has decided that it is in our best interest to cancel the 2020 Rotary Golf outing that was scheduled to be held July 27th. We felt that in light of the health crisis we are all going through that it was best at this time” said Bird. The tournament has already been re-scheduled for June 7, 2021, more information of the 2021 tournament to be held at Moon Brook Country Club will be communicated closer to the new date. Bird added, “We appreciate the support we have had over the last 25 tournaments from our community members and look forward to another great event in 2021”.

Lecture To Examine Art And Democracy

Chautauqua Institution’s nine-week season features weekday lectures focusing on weekly cultural themes. Week Four examines “The Ethics of Tech: Scientific, Corporate and Personal Responsibility,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the tremendous and sometimes harmful impact Big Tech companies and their products have on society. Nicholas Thompson, the editor-in-chief of Wired, details the story of how science and tech will change our lives and why it’s one of the most important stories in the world. Thompson is often the first person to know – and investigate – both the technological and ethical developments as they unfold in Silicon Valley. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.
