Dates For Firemen Convention Set

ELMA — The South Western Association of Volunteer Firemen has announced its annual business meeting to coincide with its annual convention July 31 through Aug. 3. The meeting and convention will be hosted by the Wales Center Fire Company in Erie County. The meetings will take place at the Iroquois High School 211 Griddle Road in Elma. The convention activities will include nightly entertainment, food trucks, firematic and EMS education to name a few activities. All activities will take place in Wales Center in the town of Elma. All activities are open to the public as well as firefighters, EMS providers and other first responders. The association is comprised of volunteer firefighters and EMS providers of fire departments and rescue squads in the four counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Erie counties of New York. The association was originally organized in 1908.

Lakeshore Yard Sale Aug. 17

DUNKIRK — The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold its 15th Annual Giant Yard Sale on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Floral Hall at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Hot dogs and drinks will be sold both days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be a bake sale, basket drawings and drawing for a 55-inch Sharp Ultrasmart TV. This event is LHS’s biggest fundraiser of the year, as the organization works to help companion animals be safe, healthy, and find permanent, loving homes. Items to be contributed to the yard sale can be dropped off at Floral Hall, Tuesday, Aug. 13, through Thursday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please, no clothing (except shoes), large appliances, metal bed springs, encyclopedias, magazines or electronics such as TVs, computer monitors, towers, and printers. Vacation Bible School Dates Set

Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave., Jamestown, will be holding vacation Bible school this summer from Aug. 12 to 16 from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 3 to 12. Events include stories, videos, music and games. A healthy snack will also be provided. Register by calling 664-5803.

Planning Board To Meet Aug. 6

WESTFIELD — The Chautauqua County Planning Board’s monthly meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, in the conference room of the Chautauqua County Division of Planning and Community Development Office at 2 S. Portage St., Westfield. Meetings of the County Planning Board are held on the first Tuesday of the month and are always open to the public.

Class Of 1967 Reunion Date Set

The Jamestown High School Class of 1967 will host a reunion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the YWCA Lake Lodge, 185 E. Terrace Ave., Lakewood. The reunion is bring-your-own alcohol and a dish to pass. The cost is $10 per classmate. For reservations, call 499-5717.
