Turns 125

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Falconer will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary on Sunday. The congregation will celebrate the anniversary with a church service at 11 a.m. A dinner and program will follow the service. Driving Course

A five-hour pre-licensing driving course will be held at Frewsburg High School on Monday, Nov. 7 and Friday, Nov. 8, from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost is $25. Patriots Showing Movie Screening

Southern Tier TEA Party Patriots is sponsoring three free screenings of “Dinesh D’Souza’s Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party.” Screenings will be held Nov. 3 at Spire Theater & Banquet Facilities, 317 E. Third St. Jamestown, across from the Post Office. Screening times are 2:30, 5 and 7 p.m. The public is urged to view this important documentary.

Preserve Tour To Be Held Nov. 5

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will tour the Cassadaga Creek Preserve on Bloomer Road in Stockton. Conservationists will lead a walk at the 150-acre property. The guide will discuss adaptations used by local wildlife to survive the coldest season of the year, including topics such as migration, hibernation and brumation. Those attending should wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. The walk is free for members with a suggested donation of $5 for non-members. Reservations are encouraged by emailing jen@chautauquawatershed.org or calling 664-2166. The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy is a member-supported not-for-profit organization which works with landowners to conserve and enhance the landscape features which protect important habitats and collect, store, filter and deliver clean waters to Chautauqua lakes, streams and groundwaters. To date it has led efforts conserving more than 1,000 acres of land across Chautauqua County.

Marching Band To Perform

The JHS Red Raider Marching Band will hold a free Community Performance of their show, Crazy Train, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Strider Field. Come out and see the band perform its fantastic show before the Red Raider Marching Band heads to the State Championships in Syracuse on Sunday.

Jazz Series To Host Harris

On Friday, the Jazz Concert Series at the Infinity Arts Cafe, 301 E. Third St., Jamestown, will feature An Evening with Marla Harris at 7 p.m. Harris was the second Chautauqua Lake Idol vocal winner and has been featured at Jazz Erie and in clubs throughout New York state. She will perform with Steve Davis, area keyboardist and Infinity piano instructor. She will also be joined by Tony Grey on bass, Preach Freedom on drums and Jed Thompson on guitar. Area jazz musician John Cross will play saxophones and be the host for the evening. The evening is free and open to the public through support from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Class Of 1954 Reunion Held

The Southwestern Central School Class of 1954 met in Alfie’s restaurant with 26 classmates attending. This class was the last attending both Celoron and Lakewood schools while the new school was built and the first class to use the auditorium for graduation. Sam Gerace was master of ceremonies. Each alumni spoke on their life and were asked to complete a summary and submit it to him. Gerace hopes to write a journal with all the information. The next reunion will be on Aug. 9, 2017 at noon in allies.

Open Mic Night Nov. 2 In?City

The Toastmaster Club will host an open-Mic night on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at Prendergast Library in Jamestown. Toastmasters is a learning-by-doing workshop that teaches participant to hone their speaking skills. The open-Mic event will take place in the fire place room on the second floor of the library.

City To Give Away Leaves

Jeffrey Lehman, P.E., director of Public Works for the city of Jamestown, announced that the Department of Public Works is looking for local farmers and/or composters who may be interested in obtaining leaves collected this fall. Cemetery To Host Cleanup

The Allen Cemetery, located on Willard Street Extension, will be holding the annual fall cleanup Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. with Nov. 5 as the rain date. We will be raking leaves and getting the cemetery ready for the winter months. All lot owners and the public are welcome to join us. A reminder that any decorations must be removed from grave sites by Oct. 29, if not they will be removed during the cleanup. Coffee and water will be provided.

‘Calendars For Cash’ Begins

The Zonta Club of Jamestown has begun its annual “Calendars of Cash” fundraiser. Calendars are being offered by all Zonta members for a $20 donation. The calendars fund the various service projects of the club including: YWCA Team Program, The Princess Club, The Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, The Salvation Army Anew Center, several locally funded scholarships, and Zonta’s successful women’s outreach: “Lily’s Hope” at the WCA Cancer Treatment Center, at Jones Memorial Health Center. Lily’s Hope provides free head coverings for local women going through any medical treatment where hair loss is evident. Festival Is Sunday

WESTFIELD – The West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 E. Pill Drop Off To Be Held Saturday

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, will hold its semiannual National Pill Take Back day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cattaraugus County Building, 1 Leo Moss Drive, Olean; the Salamanca City Fire Station, 225 Wildwood St., Salamanca; and the Delevan Plaza, 40 N. New releases by local authors will be presented at the Sinclairville Free Library on Thursday at 6 p.m. Dottie Rexford will read from her new book, “Songs in the Night.” Dottie has published two other books: “Cora Pooler,” which won a Writer’s Digest Self-Published Inspirational Fiction Award, and “May Snow.” Kim Rambacher will discuss his story, Miracle Marcia, an inspirational memoir about his wife’s struggle with cancer. AARP Chapter 334 will travel to the Lake Erie Grape Connection Center in Westfield on Saturday. The cost is $20 per person for transportation. YMCA?To Hold Babysitting Clinic

The Jamestown YMCA will hold its next YMCA babysitting clinic for boys and girls ages 11 through 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 10, at the Jamestown YMCA. The clinic will instruct participants about the responsibilities involved in caring for younger children including child development, safety and emergency response. The clinic is taught by experienced instructors who have knowledge in child development, health and overall care of children. Participants should bring a bag lunch. Space is limited. Legion To Host Velvet Cabbies

LAKEWOOD – Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 will host the Velvet Cabbies from 7-10 p.m. Thursday. Dinners will be served from 5-9 p.m. All members and guests are welcome by signing in.

Shores Chorus Ready For Year

Dinner, Bake Sale Saturday

A Swiss steak dinner and bake sale will be held at the North Harmony United Methodist Church on Saturday. The cost will be $8 for adults and $3.50 for children. Meals will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Takeouts will be available. The church is located on the Stedman-Sherman Road near the Woodcrest Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit community outreach programs. This will be the last dinner for 2016.

Ripley Church To Hold Breakfast

RIPLEY – The Ripley United Methodist Church will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, made-to-order eggs and omelets, home fries, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee. Tickets are $7. Proceeds benefit Ripley’s “Love Bear Project.”

Moose Club To Host Auctions

The Jamestown Moose Lodge 1681 will host one of its three Christmas auctions on Sunday. Doors open at 1 p.m. The auction starts at 3 p.m. Don and Sandy McKuhns will perform auctioneer duties. The full kitchen will be available. The lodge will also continue serving dinner on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

Alternate Parking In Effect In City

Effective this week daily alternate parking will be in the city of Jamestown. Vehicles shall be parked only on the odd-numbered side of the street during odd-numbered days and only on the even-numbered side of the street during even-numbered days. Daily parking alternates at 10 a.m. each day. There is no grace period.

YMCA?Family Night Begins

The Jamestown YMCA is announcing the start up of YMCA Family Nights beginning Friday, and to be held on the first Friday of every month from 6:30-9 p.m. Activities will include free play and gym activities from 6:30-8 p.m. as well as family swim from 7-9 p.m. Family nights are designed to offer families an opportunity to spend quality time together in a safe, friendly environment for little or no cost. Family nights are free to YMCA members, and $2 per person for non-members. No registration is required and all children must be accompanied by an adult. SHERMAN – The Stanley Hose Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a community appreciation day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sherman Fire Hall, 122 Park St., Sherman. The Infinity Visual and Performing Arts Center will host the October installment of Pulse Poetry Slam at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Infinity Arts Cafe. Auction To Be Held Thursday

CHERRY CREEK – A holiday auction to benefit the Cherry Creek Fire Auxiliary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, and Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Cherry Creek Fire Hall. Refreshments will be available for purchase. There will also be a collection of non-perishable food items for the Twice Fed Food Pantry in October and toys for the Salvation Army in November. The auction will be performed by auctioneer Don and Sandy McKuhns.

Outdoor Club To Meet Thursday

RUSSELL – The Allegheny Outdoor Club will hold its quarterly planning meeting at the home of John and Debra Young, 1588 Townline Road, Russell, at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6.
