Chautauqua Lake Bridge To Close At 11 P.M. Today

Veterans Memorial Bridge on Interstate 86 across Chautauqua Lake will be closed from 11 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Friday, according to Bemus Point officials. Additionally, officials are also reporting that better signage has been placed on the bridge to help with directions and the flow of traffic. The bridge is currently in the process of going through a rehabilitation and repair program which will see roughly 5,300 feet of bridge deck replaced, and new median and side barriers will be installed. Bridge joints and high rocker bearings will also be replaced, and repairs to the superstructure will be done where needed.

Quilts Of Valor Group To Meet Saturday

The Chautauqua Region Quilts of Valor group will meet Saturday at 9:30 a.m. for a business meeting and then will be having a sewing time to work on individual Quilts of Valor projects from 10 a.m. to noon at Quilters’ Haven. Quilters’ Haven is located at 135 W. Fairmount Ave in the Jamestown Mattress Plaza in Lakewood. New members and participants are welcome.

Orchestra To Perform May 26

The Jamestown Area Community Orchestra will perform its Spring 2024 concert under the direction of John Cross at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at First Covenant Church, Jamestown. An offering will be taken. The Jamestown Area Community Orchestra has been providing the community with orchestral music for more than a quarter-century, relying on the volunteer talents of area musicians, retired music teachers and musicians, and advanced high school and college musicians. Selections for the concert include “Die Meistersinger” by Wagner, “Fellowship of the Ring” by Shore, “River Songs” arr. Douglas Wagner, “Concerto for Two Cellos in G Minor” by Vivaldi, featuring Bryan Eckenrode and Mandy Majtan, “Memory” by Webber, in remembrance of the orchestra’s former president, Joseph DiCarlo, and “Forrest Gump Suite” by Silvestri.

Outdoor Club To Kayak Sunday

Members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will kayak on the Chadakoin River on Sunday. The group will meet at 2 p.m. at McCrea Point Park, 14 Jones & Gifford Ave., Jamestown, at the kayak launch. Come into the park and turn left.

Mayville American Legion, VFW To Host Memorial Day Ceremony

MAYVILLE – The William Travis American Legion Post 493 and Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647 will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at the Hometown Heroes Gazebo located in the Mayville Cemetery. The parade will begin at Academy Street at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. This year’s keynote address, “The Price of Freedom”, will be delivered by guest speaker Michael Canna. The ceremony is open to the public. Route 430 will be closed to traffic in both directions during the parade from Academy Street to Honneysette Road in Mayville from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Road closed signs will be posted. Drivers are advised to use caution.
