Week 6 of the Northwest Arena Winter Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique did not disappoint. No team is safe in the race for seeding as the playoffs approach.
5:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE
Heidi Maggio and Taylor Putney inched Button Blockers ever so closer to first place. They picked up strong wins against Legion of Broom 37-26 and Kidney Stones 37-32.
Head for the Mountains made a massive leap in the standings after a 2-0 evening. Rachel Anderson took charge in a 49-39 victory over Scuba Crew. Steven Anderson hit the game winner in OT to beat Legion of Broom 46-45.
Ed Cramer and Frank Fuller have Fruit of the Brooms back on the road. They wiped the floor with Pepsi 37-27 and Dinner Bell 30-24.
Rich Tyger and Shoeless Joe’s were able to lock down Pepsi 22-13.
Randy Brown held off War Vets 44-35 and got the win for Guys ‘n Curls.
Deborah Piotrowski and Kidney Stones pulled off the upset of top-seeded Shoeless Joe’s 32-30.
Patrick Mims and Scuba Crew remain in the mix after coming out on top of TRCurlers 31-28.
Bruce Main engineered a 47-41 thrilling conquest of Guys ‘n Curls for TRCurlers in double-overtime.
Mike Martin delivered in crunch time so Dinner Bell could claw back against War Vets 28-26.
6:45 JEREMY’S BEL-VIEW MONDAY LEAGUE
Steve Arnone took matters into his own hands for Sour Pickles. He carried the team to a double-overtime triumph over Curl Jam 36-33. As if that wasn’t enough, Arnone captained a late rally to wave goodbye to Sip & Sliders 26-25.
David and MaryBeth Southwick ran the table for Tree Huggers in close shaves of Sly & the Family Stone 35-31 and Lakeshore Paving 35-27.
Sherry Mattison and Kathi Geary erupted for the scrappy Pickle Pushers. Victimizations of Snow Good at This 44-25 and Rock Blockers 38-21 got the team right.
Rand Machine responded well after having its winning streak snapped. Cliff Sleasman had the hot hand once again to double-up Curl Jam 28-14.
Leigh-Anne Hendrick rose to the occasion after Snow Good at This faced adversity. She answered the bell in a 27-25 nailbiter with Stark Company.
Mike Poane was still able to boost Stark Company in the standings as a result of a 36-32 win over Sip & Sliders.
Hillary Elleman’s gutsy performance resulted in a 23-21 close call for Sly & the Family Stone.
Bud Liden saved the day for Lakeshore East as they defied the odds against league-renown Rand Machine 22-17.
Catherine Ianello’s consistent shooting was the deciding factor as Rock Blockers defeated Lakeshore Paving 28-23.
5:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Geriatric Curling Machine continues to defy father time and remain in first place. Tom Lassen took control in their wins over Girls with Stones 36-28 and Drunken Sliders 39-26.
Mark and Chris Baglia helped Rolling Stones jump a few spots in the standings. They throttled We Love Beer 50-18 and upset Curl Jam 30-24.
Mark Hinderleider and Hindy’s Hurlers clamped down on Bad to the Stones 27-22.
After losing a tight one in the first slate, Curling Me Softly came back with vengeance. Kait Benish put up numbers in the late moments to decide the game with Gren’s Growlers 31-30.
Blaire Borst and Curl Jam gave Hindy’s Hurlers all they could handle in a 39-26 victory.
Ned Baudo never misses a beat for Drunken Sliders. He stayed on point to help them fight off Curling Me Softly 41-39.
Ryan Patti delivered the game-winning shot as Bad to the Stones vanquished Gren’s Growlers 33-30.
Stephanie Trusso engineered a nice performance for Girls with Stones in a 30-23 triumph against Stone Cold Maidens.
Julie Korban and her Stone Cold Maidens showed life in the first game to knock off Had a Few 41-33.
Justin Kell picked up some positive steam for We Love Beer heading into the final week. They got the job done when matched up with Had a Few 35-24.
6:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
12 oz. Curlers have not moved from their first-place throne in some time. Ryan Dalaba and Justin Swanson ensured that in defeats of Got Stones 26-24 and Smokin’ Rocks 30-20.
The Brush Offs reclaimed second place behind Jen Swanson, who has turned on the burners. She led the way to ease by Slone Melhuish 38-17 then creep by Perfect Stones 49-47.
Joe Rollman anchored the defense for Ice & Easy for two trench-warfare style games, 22-19 and 27-26 where Curls Gone Wild and Slone Melhuish were on the wrong side.
Molly Gustafson and Ice Men picked up as many wins on the night as they did all season. They tried to change the narrative after a blowout of Rolling Stones 42-18 and a close call with In the House 35-32.
George Panebianco did not fold under the late game pressure for Perfect Stones. His fearless shot decided the outcome with In the House 25-22.
Howie McIntyre and Got Stones are trying to keep pace with the top of the league. A 31-29 win over Curls Gone Wild aided that cause.
Smokin’ Rocks are in a very similar boat heading into the final week. Jason Britt shined bright yet again in a potential trap game with Curling Q’s 28-20.
Lorie Runge lifted the spirits of Rolling Stones after acquiring a 34-25 victory over Curling Q’s.
7:30 STEVE CHAMBERS/JAMESTOWN HONDA WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Barney’s Hoof Trimming maneuvered its way to second place thanks to Jen Anderson and Jim DiFonzo. They conquered top-seeded Dot’s Men 42-33 and pulled away from Home Despots 45-35.
Beth and Ireland Hagglund turned the season around for Haggy’s Jr. Curling Crew. Their defense was prominent to hold off Ice Holes 27-15 and 12 oz. Curlers 30-26.
Luckily for Dot’s Men, Bryan Olson came to curl to keep their first-place spot secure. He did so in a 38-29 win against DH}SW.
Sandy Everson was electric for Cold as Ice in an obliteration of Six Stones and a Stick 45-24.
Late scoring provided by Tim Sturges ignited a 37-27 victory for 12 oz. Curlers over Home Despots.
Mike Currie clutched up in a game where the points were not easy to come by. Sub Zero and Currie took care of Stone Cold Sippers 25-21.
Jim Bergman and DH}SW are team that cannot be slept on. They notched a quality mark in the win column at the hands of Sub Zero 31-25.
Stone Cold Sippers and Kirk Maberry didn’t freeze up in their game with Cold as Ice. Knocking out points for the opposition became a routine that got on top of a 25-20 slugfest.
Brittany Reitz was in a groove for Six Stones and a Stick. The team gave Draw a Blank a 42-32 schooling.
Ice Holers have some work to do heading into the playoffs. However, Curt Wood and his team assembled a 44-24 beatdown of Draw a Blank to celebrate before playoffs arrive.
4:30 RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY LEAGUE
Newcomers On the Rocks looked like veterans as they knocked off the previous first-place team, Cold Beer Here, 35-33, as Kris Jacobson had the game-winning stone and then Jenna Whitney took it to Premier Listing 44-21.
Seminar Group went 2-0 with a 45-40 win over Premier Listings and a thrilling overtime win over Bourbon 420 39-36 as Rex McCray had the deciding stone.
Bourbon 420 started out their night with a close victory over Haggy’s 4 Below as Doug Peterson and Paul Rizzo were stellar.
Lions & Bears also took it to Cold Beer Here 39-25 with Barb Lyons showing her outstanding stickwork.
Karen Roberts came off the bench to lead Sweeping Beauties past Lions & Bears 54-35.
In another overtime thriller, the Bemus Boulders, led by Judy Swanson, knocked off the Bemus Sliders 40-38. Rookie John Ognibene played well but could not pull off the upset for the Sliders.
Nick Lucas carried Tracey’s Dog to two convincing wins over the Bemus Boulders 54-29 and Sweeping Beauties 40-21.
