Southwestern, Frewsburg Boys Take First At Respective Home Meets

Southwestern’s Nate Lewis and Allegany-Limestone’s Angelina Napoleon led their respective teams to Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association cross country victories at Southwestern Central School on Tuesday.

Lewis finished in 17:07 as the Trojans finished with 27 points. Maple Grove was second with 42 points, led by third-place Ethan Verbosky. Fredonia was third with 59 points, paced by fifth-place Trenton Krenzer. Allegany-Limestone’s boys were incomplete.

Napoleon finished in 19:26 to lead the Gators to 35 points. Southwestern was second with 47 points, led by second-place Emma Lewis. Maple Grove was third with 51 points, paced by sixth-place Allison Bohall. Fredonia was fourth with 84 points, led by 12th-place Alana Cook.

BEARS, WOLFPACK DOMINATE

FREWSBURG — Juvenal Diaz led a group of four Frewsburg runners across the finish line as the Bears finished with 17 points to win the boys race at the Robert H. Jackson Elementary School Frewsburg Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama runners finished in the top eight spots at the Wolfpack dominated the girls race with 15 points. C/S/P’s Tess Flikkema took first with a time of 21:42. Silver Creek/Forestville’s Emily Bowers finished ninth, Frewsburg’s Teghan Trocki finished 11th and Franklinville/Ellicottville’s Lucy Marchase finished 18th, but their teams were incomplete.

Diaz finished in 18:42 with teammates Cody Kent four seconds back and Micah Barber two seconds behind Kent. C/S/P’s Lucas Dunnewold was fifth to lead the Wolfpack to a second-place finish with 50 points. Silver Creek/Forestville was third with 77 points, paced by 11th-place Josh Press. Franklinville/Ellicottville was fourth with 84 points, led by sixth-place Grant Cornell.

JAMESTOWN BOYS, GIRLS WIN

COLLINS — Jamestown won the boys and girls races during action against Gowanda, Dunkirk and Olean at the Collins Conservation Club.

The Red Raiders’ Maxwell Knight took the boys race in 17:37.83 to lead all five Jamestown runners who finished in the top 10 and scored 28 points. Gowanda was second with 40 points, led by Drew Shull in third place. Olean was third with 66 points, led by fourth-place Lucas Peterson-Volz. Dunkirk was fourth with 105 points, paced by 19th-place Zachary Zentz.

Jamestown’s girls finished with 30 points, led by third-place Gabriella Knight. Gowanda was second with 32 points, paced by first-place Autumn Pupo (21:51.92) and second-place Calie Hudson. Olean was incomplete. The Huskies’ top runner was eighth-place Sofia Rucinski.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley took first in the boys race with 25 points, led by third-place Jase Smith. Kelly’s first-place finish in 16:46 led the Cardinals to a second-place finish with 30 points. Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Grady Merrill was fifth, West Valley’s Nick Peters was 13th and Salamanca’s Perry Winship was 14th, but their teams were incomplete.

Randolph won the girls team race with 23 points, led by third-place Gracyn Rowland. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley was second with 32 points, led by fifth-place Marcella Seekings. Harmony finished in 20:00 for West Valley, Ryanna Brady was second for Salamanca and Bailey Cannon was 10th for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, but their teams were incomplete.
