Mud Run To Benefit Community Helping Hands
GERRY — Be More Fitness is again combining active fun with benefiting the community — and while adding a little mud.
On Saturday, March 19, the organization will host a Lucky Mud Run at the Gerry Rodeo Grounds where new and lightly-used clothes for children will be collected. The clothes and monetary proceeds will be donated to Community Helping Hands.
Brad Barmore, co-founder of Be More Fitness, said the business is geared toward helping the community while providing fun events.
“We just started this business in November and we did our first mud run in November and we did a polar plunge in January,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is we’re trying to promote physical activity and fitness. And while we’re doing that, we’re trying to raise funds for local programs, homeless shelters, women’s support groups, and veterans support groups. Then, at each event, we’re going to collect lightly used clothes, hygiene products, can goods, and everything you can think of that maybe a homeless shelter can use. We’re just trying to give back; our motto is just being more in all areas of life, so we just try to ‘be more.'”
Since November, Be More Fitness has donated more than $10,000 to local charities, over 2,000 pairs of shoes and over 400 jackets. The business has supported homeless shelters, the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club and other area nonprofits.
“Everything that we do is we keep it fun,” he said. “Just to bring people together and have a good time.”
There won’t be medals or official timekeeping, however, a cash prize will be given out for best-dressed. For more information on the run, find the group on Facebook under “BeMoreFitness Events.”
