John J. Genco

John J. Genco, 88, of 1892 Manchester Road, died Tuesday April 21, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 26, 1937, in Jamestown, a son of the late Paul and Rosaria Basile Genco.

A veteran of the US Army, he served from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957.

Prior to his retirement he owned and operated S&S Machine Shop.

He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.

John enjoyed seeing the deer in his backyard, hunting and watching horse racing. In addition, he was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and was a season ticket holder for many years. He also rooted for the Buffalo Sabres and discussed their games with his grandson Johnny.

As a member of War Vets Recreation, he had fun with his many friends there.

His family wishes to thank all of the staff in the dialysis unit who provided such wonderful care to John.

Surviving are three daughters, Lorie Genco of Jamestown, Debbie Genco of Myrtle Beach, SC and Jonna Genco of Lakewood; grandchildren, Brandi (Damon) Shields, Danielle (Greg Allen) Ackley, John (Hannah) Ackley and Rachel Armeli; great- grandchildren, Nandi and Ezra Armeli, Leo and Suvi Ackley, Birdie and Locke Ackley, and one on the way; and a close friend, Bobby McIlvain, who was like a son to John.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Pollaro Genco, whom he married in 1958 and who died Oct. 5, 2024; four brothers, Anthony, Sam, Jim and Carl (Mello) Genco; and by six sisters, Josephine Engwall, Ida Spitale, Mary Morrelle, Rita Pillittieri, Angie Saullo and Decca Nelson.

In keeping with John’s wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed.
