Frewsburg Appoints New School Principal
Joshua Gilevski
FREWSBURG — A new Frewsburg Middle-High School principal has been appointed.
The Frewsburg Board of Education at a meeting last week approved the appointment of Joshua Gilevski to be the new principal. Shelly O’Boyle, Frewsburg Central School District superintendent, told The Post-Journal Gilevski will begin at Frewsburg on Dec. 13. She said Gilevski has 10 years of administrative experience in the Cassadaga Valley Central School District.
O’Boyle said Gilevski and his wife, Shannon, who are both alumni of Frewsburg Central School, reside in the Frewsburg community with their four children – Grace, Graham, Greta, and Griffin – who are all Frewsburg students.
“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to become a part of the great culture built here at FCS,” Gilevski said. “I absolutely cannot wait to meet our students and become part of the team to give them the greatest experience while they are here. I look forward to forming long-lasting relationships with our community, support staff and teachers and am eager to get started.”
According to the resolution the board approved, the principal position will be a four-year probationary period commencing on Dec. 13 and ending on Dec. 12, 2025, unless extended under the law.

¯ The board also heard a mural presentation from Hannah Eckert, who is a senior at Frewsburg. Eckert would like to leave a “visual legacy” at the school by creating a mural that will deal with environmental and technological issues. She hopes the mural will start a conversation about nature.
The mural will also include a quote from John Muir, a naturalist, that states, “The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing.”
O’Boyle said it’s a Frewsburg Central School District long-standing tradition of allowing senior students to paint murals on the walls in the high school.
“When a student wishes to do this, they enroll in an independent study class with art teacher Lindsey Vitello,” O’Boyle said. “Following (Eckert’s) presentation, the board granted Hannah permission to begin her project, and commended her on her talent and her proposed lasting message. ”
¯ O’Boyle said the board also listened to a presentation by Scott Graham and Shaun Wright from Young and Wright Architectural on options for the existing gas well located on the high school property. She said the options provided were designed to assist the board in making the most financially responsible choice for use of the gas well going forward.
