Rotary Club Hears About UPMC Labor, Delivery

Left to right: UPMC Registered nurses Dawn Pickett and Amanda Hagg were welcomed to speak to the Rotary Club of Jamestown by President Ruth Lundin and Program Chairman Dan Heizenrater.

The Rotary Club of Jamestown welcomed Dawn Pickett and Amand Hagg, nurses at the UPMC Labor and Delivery Unit for 17 years and 19 years, respectively, to update the organization regarding this hospital department.

The department’s 22 employees have been responsible for more than 700 deliveries in the past year. The nurses thanked Rotary for the Rotary/Creche Books and Bibs program and reported seeing new fathers reading the Good Night Moon book given to their babies.

The nurses had high praise for the transition from a small, rural hospital like WCA to the large UPMC organization seeing more providers and increased women’s health services.

They spoke about the training that is done for the staff at least every two years and noted they are presently expecting 17 graduate nurses to begin service in June, but there remain additional openings to be filled.
