Scholastic Trap

The Bradford Gun Club hosted the first leaguewide, and hopefully not the last, Scholastic Youth Trap NY/PA shoot.

There were more than 160 shooters from the two states participating. New York brought teams from Cuba-Rushford, Bolivar-Richburg, Allegany-Limestone, Ellicottville, Portville and Salamanca. Pennsylvania brought shooters from Coudersport (Black Forest), Bradford, Oswayo Valley, Otto-Eldred and Smethport. Awards were given to the top eight shooters from New York and Pennsylvania, as well as the top male and female shooters.

The NY/PA shoot featured cold temperatures and stiff breezes, which challenged the shooters.

Pennsylvania took top honors 375-358 over New York. Otto-Eldred’s Galvin Silvis was the top male with a 50 and Coudersport’s Kaylea Emeson was the top female with a 43.

Coudersport took first in Pennsylvania with a 348, followed by Bradford (347), Otto-Eldred (344), Oswayo Valley (332) and Smethport (332). Cuba-Rushford took first in New York with a 341, followed by Portville (332), Allegany-Limestone (304), Bolivar-Richburg (298) and Ellicottville (272).

Silvis was the top Pennsylvania shooter, followed by Bradford’s Evan Elmore (47), Bradford’s Mitchell Brinsky (47), Oswayo Valley’s Aiden Resig (47), Smethport’s Braydon Cosper (46), Otto-Eldred’s Nick Brown (46), Coudersport’s Owen Gill (46) and Coudersport’s Caine Wright (46).

Cuba-Rushford’s Mason Findlay was New York’s top shooter with a 47, followed by Ellicottville’s Grady Byroads (46), Cuba-Rushford’s Tyler Findlay (45), Salamanca’s Trent Ellis (45), Cuba-Rushford’s Lucas Keiser (44), Cuba-Rushford’s Ethan Cole (44), Portville’s Jackson George (44) and Allegany-Limestone’s Jacob Dowd (43).

In the East Conference, Cuba-Rushford took top honors over Bolivar-Richburg 1,070-968. Cuba-Rushford’s Brock Stadler was the high gun male and Bolivar-Richburg’s Emma Bolzan was the high gun female.

In the Southern Conference, Coudersport finished first with 1,103, followed by Bradford (1,087), Smethport (1,064), Otto-Eldred (1,053) and Oswayo Valley (1,005).

MARCH 26

What a difference a week can make. Ellicottville’s Grady Byroads and Bradford’s Lillian Millot both shot 25s in match competition. League history may have been made by the Coudersport Black Forest Falcons. Four Black Falcons shooters crushed perfect scores in the same match. Not confirmed but the Black Falcons may have scored one of, if not the first, highest score in a single match, with a 196. A perfect score is 200.

In Falconer’s last season practice, Dominic Pangborn, in his second year, also shot his first 25. This is quite an accomplishment for any shooter.
