FALCONER – The Thule Lodge recently served its annual Easter dinner.

The Thule Lodge is the Swedish organization organized 117 years ago in the Jamestown area to help the Swedish immigrants as they settled in the U.S. Today, the lodge exists to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities.

Recently the annual Easter dinner was held at the Falcon’s Nest Hall in Falconer. The meal was catered by the 3 C’s catering. A fine dinner was had by all. The Easter dinner is known as “Egg-sexa” meaning foods made with eggs. The blessing prior to the meal was given in Swedish by Brigitta Hofert.

Following the meal, a meeting of the lodge members was held, with chairman Susan Washington Sipos serving as the lodge chairman. The pledge of allegiance to the American Flag was led by lodge historian John Sipos. Sipos also serves as the lodge secretary and gave the roll call of officers. New members are welcome.

Immediate past chairman Tim Miller asked all of the 2024 officers to stand and administered the oath of office to all officers. Member Norman Carlson was congratulated for being appointed as the new Chautauqua County Historian. Carlson said he would do a good job, and begins in May 2024. Sipos read the minutes of the planning session held in February and the minutes of the last meeting. Treasurer Loretta Smith gave the financial report of the lodge.

The meeting award was presented to Nancy Jones.

The next meeting will be the annual Memorial Service of the lodge on Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer. All members who died in the last year will be remembered. Family members are welcome.
