Joyce L. Mead

Joyce L. Mead

Joyce L. Mead, 92, formerly of Robinson Ave., West Ellicott, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

Joyce was the widow of Walter S. “Scotty” Mead whom she married June 5, 1948, and who died March 3, 2014.

A lifelong Jamestown native, Joyce was born June 5, 1931, a daughter of the late Harold and Gertrude (Anderson) Johnson. She was employed for many years by the former Erickson’s Restaurant in Lakewood.

Surviving are her three daughters: Susan (Mark McConnon) Leonard of Concord NC, Barbara Foulk and Christine (James) Reed – both of West Ellicott, and son-in-law Dale Smith of Concord NC. In addition, thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews mourn her passing.

Joyce was a woman of strong Christian faith. That – and her family – formed the heart of her life. Joyce and Scotty enjoyed their grandchildren, often attending their school and sporting events. They frequently traveled to visit distant friends and family – and considered this to be the best of vacations. Working in her kitchen, sewing, and enjoying her pets rounded out a very full life.

Along with her parents and husband Walter, Joyce was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Smith, and sister, Alberta Myers.

A private graveside ceremony was officiated by family friend, Pastor Tim Stahlman, in fulfillment of Joyce’s wishes.
