Falconer Rolls; Trojans’ Silakowski Sets Record

DUNKIRK — Mylie Zaranek, Nylah Sharpe and Khloe Livengood all doubled as Falconer beat Dunkirk 13-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball Wednesday.

Angelina Fiasco went 2 for 3 with two runs scored for the Golden Falcons. Hannah Melquist and Mylie Zaranek combined on a four-hitter in the circle.

SILAKOWSKI SETS RECORD

SALAMANCA — Arianna Silakowski had a historic performance for the Southwestern softball team Wednesday as she set the single-game record for strikeouts as she fanned 17 Salamanca batters en route to a two-hit, 12-0 nonleague victory over the Warriors.

Silakowski walked just one batter and held a no-hitter until the sixth inning as she turned in the record-setting performance.

Not that it was needed, but Silakowski received plenty of run support from her Southwestern (4-8, 2-7) teammates.

Maddie Burnett led the offense with a grand slam, Siri DuBois went 2 for 3 with a home run, Jaidyn Newhouse hit a two-run single, Eliana Barone doubled and Lexi Beckerink finished 2 for 5.

McKenzie Crouse broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning with a double for the Warriors and Kortney DeBoy added a single in the seventh.

The losing pitcher for Salamanca (4-11, 3-8) was Brianna Benjamin.

BESTINE HRs ON SENIOR DAY; GNADZINSKI REACHES 100 CAREER HITS

WESTFIELD — Senior Tanleigh Bestine homered and junior Eva Gnadzinski picked up her 100th career hit on Senior Day as Westfield beat Cassadaga Valley 17-1 in Division 2 West action.

Bestine opened the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run over the left-field fence and Gnadzinski followed with a home run of her own. The Wolverines (12-3, 9-1) put up four runs in the inning and never looked back.

Gnadzinski went 3 for 3, reaching the century mark with a hit in her second at-bat of the day. She finished with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Bestine was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and four runs scored; Keara Kincaid was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored; Drew Ernewein was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored; Sydney Hotchkiss was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored; and Charly Mathews doubled, drove in two runs and scored a run.

Bestine threw a five-inning three-hitter with five strikeouts in the circle.

Emiley Anderson, Anna Burlingame and Chloe Lundberg singled for the Cougars (3-11, 1-8).

CARDS SURVIVE HORNETS’ RALLY

FORESTVILLE — Quinn Pence raced home with the eventual winning run on an errant throw in the top of the ninth inning to send Randolph to a 7-6 victory over Forestville in a Division 1 East game.

The Cardinals (6-5, 5-3), who led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, were led offensively by winning pitcher Aliza Hind, who cracked four hits, including a double; and Ryanne Bushey (double) and Donnilynn Sheldon, who had two hits apiece.

In the circle, Hind struck out eight and walked three, but saw the Hornets (5-6, 2-6) tie the game with a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Jenna Emerson’s two-run single and Emily Lillie’s two-run double.

Lillie, Emerson and Aspen VanArsdale all collected two hits in support of pitcher Megan Gruber, who struck out 11 and walked three.

EAGLES DOWN BEARS

FREWSBURG — Chautauqua Lake led just 1-0 into the fifth inning, but scored four runs over the final three innings to beat Frewsburg 5-1 in Division 2 West play.

Cayzlee Johnson threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks in the circle for the Eagles (12-1, 10-0).

Lucy Gates had three hits; Johnson had two hits, including a double; Jillian Miller had two hits; and Alice Scarpine and Eden Ludwig added singles for Chautauqua Lake.

Ava Reale singled and scored on Teghan Trocki’s RBI double in the fifth inning for the Bears’ lone run. Addison Hultberg and Skylar Waid each added a single.

Trocki and Teagan Nazario combined for six strikeouts and three walks in the circle for Frewsburg (6-8, 3-8).
