LAKEWOOD — Trailing 8-0 after three innings, Jamestown rallied to stun Southwestern 11-10 in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball game at Packard Field on Wednesday.
Early on, the Red Raiders (1-4, 1-0) had little luck with Trojans starter Jameson Walsh, who struck out 10 in 3.1 innings, but they began to chip away when he left the game, scoring two in the fourth and one in the fifth to close the gap to 8-3.
The sixth inning proved to be the difference as Jamestown took advantage of passed balls and walks to plate six runs and take the lead for good.
Southwestern scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Caleb Piazza retired the final batter on a groundout with the tying run on base to end the game. John Torres Jr. was the winning pitcher in relief, working 4.2 innings, striking out six and issuing three walks. Offensively, Torres Jr. smacked an RBI double, Owen Kearney had a single and two RBIs, and Colin Melendez drove in a run courtesy of a sacrifice fly.
The Trojans (0-1, 0-1) were led offensively by Lucas Gilbert with a solo home run; and Dustin Hendricks (double, three RBIs) and Pete Conley with two hits apiece.
