ORCHARD PARK — Jamestown outscored Orchard Park 23-7 in the first quarter and then held on for a 50-44 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 victory Friday night.
Kylie O’Brien led the Red Raiders (7-4, 3-2) with 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Marley Drake had 13 points and eight rebounds. Mickia Freeney chipped in 8 points, five steals and five assists.
“We were able to press and able to run our stuff early. We knew Kylie would have an advantage and she had a great (first) quarter,” Jamestown head coach Ken Ricker said after O’Brien had 15 of Jamestown’s 23 first-quarter points. “Freeney had three fouls at the start of the second quarter. That didn’t allow us to press anymore and we lost our engine. Marley had to slide over to point guard. We just weren’t able to get Kylie touches or get Marley good looks. Mickia sat almost all of the second and third quarters.”
The Quakers (4-8, 1-4) outscored the Red Raiders 25-11 in the middle two quarters to make it a two-point game entering the final eight minutes.
“Mickia went back in late in the third quarter and right away we got a couple of good looks. Marley knocked down a wide-open 3-pointer.”

Orchard Park made it a two-point game late, but O’Brien and Drake combined for five free throws down the stretch.
“Even though we are short in numbers, we really are a pretty decent team when we’re getting up and down the floor,” Ricker said. “Mickia is so good and she just gets us going. She’s happy to get Alyson and Marley open 3s. When she attacks the rim, she drops it to Kylie or Anna (Engquist). With her out for such a long stretch, not just her, but anybody, we’re a fragile team.”
The win was Ricker’s 161st as head coach at Jamestown, sending him past Seth Beauseigneur for first place in program history.
