WEST SENECA — Angelina Napoleon has been making headlines in track and field for years.

Still only a junior at Allegany-Limestone, she turned in the most stunning performance of her career over the weekend.

Competing in the Section VI state qualifier on Saturday at West Seneca West High School, Napoleon set the national record in the Division 2 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:24.32, breaking the previous mark of 6:25.35 set by Sydney Masciarelli of Marianapolis (Connecticut) Prep last year.

Napoleon also claimed first-place finishes at the state qualifier in the Division 2 800 meters (2:08.02), the 3,000 meters (10:11.73) and the high jump (5-4).

There were plenty more outstanding efforts by Division 2 athletes from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association on Friday and Saturday.
