Eagles Rally For Baseball Victory

MAYVILLE — Michael Jauss hit an RBI single to score Clayton Smith with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Chautauqua Lake rallied past Clymer/Sherman/Panama for a 10-9 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball win Friday.

The Wolfpack (2-5, 2-2) led 9-6 entering the bottom of the seventh inning before the Eagles (5-2, 3-2) pushed across four runs — all with two outs.

Ryker Ellis doubled with two outs and scored on an error when Devin Hewes hit a flyball to right field. After Logan Fuller walked and both runners moved up a base, Smith hit a two-run double to left field to tie the game. OLEAN’S CARTMILL

STYMIES HILLBILLIES

FREDONIA — An old-fashioned pitchers’ duel ended with Olean giving Fredonia its first loss of the season 3-1 — thanks in large part to Noah Cartmill, who threw a complete-game four-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

The Huskies (5-1, 4-1) struck first in the top of the second inning when Dominick Myers reached on an error and later scored on a Cain DeGolier sacrifice fly.

The Hillbillies (6-1, 4-1) pulled even in the bottom of the second, when Rocco Muscarella walked, advanced on Issiah Ruiz’s single, and later scored on a Jack Frame infield single.

Olean went ahead again in the fourth when Ethan Woodring walked and scored on a double to left field by DeGolier — who was thrown out at third base trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

Fredonia pitcher Matt Cowan threw 6 1/3 innings striking out four and allowing two runs (one earned) before reaching his pitch limit.

Fredonia threatened in the bottom of the sixth when Cowan led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by a Brady Crawford bunt, and reached third on a Colin Luce infield single. However, Fredonia’s double-steal attempt was thwarted by Olean — cutting down the potential tying run at the plate.

Olean tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Austin Miles led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.

Starting at $3.50/week.
