ROCHESTER — The Southwestern sailing team has qualified for MASSA All-Girls Championship, which is being held this weekend in Annapolis, Maryland.

The local girls earned the right to compete against some of the top female sailors in the country by virtue of their efforts in Rochester last Saturday. The day was one of the first warm and sunny sailing events of the season with light wind, which was less favorable conditions for everyone, making the slightest maneuvers and corrections really count. Off to a slow start, Southwestern ended the day with its most consistent finishes.

“We really pulled it together toward the end of the event and found our rhythm on the course,” said Coach Farris.

Freshman Siri Dubois and sophomore crew Zoe Pike where on the qualifying team, receiving seven top-five place finishes. Also participating was teammate Aly Dalton as skipper to take a top-three finish as well.

“Its great to have such young talented team,” Coach Farris said. “This was Southwestern’s first time at this event, which was very exciting, and with this group of sailors we have it won’t be our last.”
