Salamanca Captures Own Tournament Title

SALAMANCA — Senior Shawn Bacelli allowed three hits and struck out five in five innings as Salamanca won its own tournament with a 3-1 victory over Ellicottville on Saturday.

Freshman Jacob Herrick, sophomore Jaxson Ross and junior Jaxon Tarr each had a hit for the Warriors, who scored twice in the first inning and once in the fourth. Ross and Bacelli each had an RBI.

Caedon Wyatt allowed three hits and struck out four in four innings for the Eagles. Logan Grinols, Lucas Marsh and Wyatt each had a hit.

Ellicottville advanced to the title game with a 7-2 win over Cassadaga Valley.

Marsh threw a five-inning four-hitter with 10 strikeouts on the mound. Hunter Smith doubled and Braylon Wyatt had two hits while Marsh and Caleb Ploetz each singled. Smith scored three times and Marsh scored twice.

Braden LeBaron had two hits for the Cougars.

Frewsburg won the consolation game 14-2 over Cassadaga Valley as Chase Haglund threw four innings, struck out seven and allowed five hits while not issuing a walk.

Toby Gifford went 4 for 4 to lead an 18-hit attack for the Bears. Haglund and Garrett Brink were both 3 for 5 with a double.

In Frewsburg’s first game, the Bears led Salamanca 6-3 entering the fourth inning before the Warriors put up six runs and eventually won 9-6.

Ross led the uprising for Salamanca with a two-out inside-the-park grand slam to take a 7-6 lead.

Ross also threw the final three innings, struck out eight and allowed one hit for the Warriors.

Trent Bjork had an RBI double while Payton Dustin also doubled for Frewsburg.

FOUR GOWANDA PITCHERS COMBINE ON TWO-HITTER

GOWANDA — Gavin Phillips, Cole Herman, Bryan Zynda and Blake Herman combined on a two-hitter as Gowanda shut out Akron 6-0 in nonleague baseball Saturday afternoon.

Blake Herman went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Panthers’ offense.
