Dunkirk Pulls Off Class B1 Upset; Timberwolves Move On In Class C

BUFFALO — Amarion Tell hit a 3-pointer and a pair of late free throws to seal No. 15 Dunkirk’s 59-57 Section VI Class B1 first-round boys basketball victory over No. 10 Burgard on Tuesday at MST Prep.
The Marauders led 20-6 after the first quarter and 37-26 at halftime, but fell behind entering the fourth quarter.
There, Tell scored 5 of his 7 points and Marcel Carter added 8 of his game-high 27 points for Dunkirk.
We gave up a little bit here and there, but we pulled it off in the fourth,” Marauders head coach Sixto Rosario said. “I think we need everyone to get something. Marcel has helped us out, but the rest of the guys when they step in there and score some points, we’ll be OK. They did that.”
Mekhi Samuel led the Bulldogs with 25 points and Nasir West added 13.

Dunkirk will travel to No. 7 East Aurora for a prequarterfinal tonight at 7.
“We were focused on this game,” Rosario said of the matchup with the Blue Devils. “Our coaches are watching film as we speak and breaking things down.”

CATTARAUGUS — Josh Halterman scored 18 points and John Visnesky added 16 as No. 9 Cattaraugus-Little Valley beat No. 16 Falconer 56-40 in a Class C first-round game.
The Timberwolves advanced to the tonight’s prequarterfinals where they will take on No. 8 Global Concepts in Buffalo.
Gage Furl added 8 points and Kodi Colton had 7 for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, which trailed 13-3 after the first quarter and 21-14 at halftime.
Halterman then scored 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, during a 19-8 third quarter that gave the Timberwolves a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
Roger Markham led the Golden Falcons with 12 points and Jase Smith had 10.

Owait Lan added 12 points and Tyeon Sanford had 10 for the Wolves, who led 36-22 at halftime.
Lawson Ormsby led the Thunderbirds with 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots; Carson D’Anthony had 16 points and four rebounds; and Jalen Parkhurst chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.
MST Prep will travel to No. 5 Portville for a prequarterfinal tonight.

BARKER — No. 15 Cassadaga Valley beat No. 10 Barker 78-76 in overtime in a Class C first-round matchup.
The Raiders led 75-71 with two minutes left in the extra session before the Cougars rallied.
Cassadaga Valley will have to make another long bus trip tonight when it visits No. 7 Wilson in a quarterfinal game.
