Book Finds A Home At HOF

A book reprint detailing the history of America’s pastime in Jamestown has now found a home in Cooperstown.

Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame president Randy Anderson has received word that “Our Game: From Unknowns to Tarp Skunks, 155 Years (And Counting!) of Baseball in Jamestown, New York,” which he donated to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum last year, has been accepted by its collections department.

A reprint of the 1998 book “Across the Seams” by Dave Mulei, with new, additional chapters edited by Post-Journal sports editor Scott Kindberg, “Our Game” provides an in-depth look at the history of baseball in Jamestown, from the many affiliations with Major League Baseball teams to Jamestown’s more recent participation in summer collegiate baseball.

In addition to Mulei’s work, the addendum that highlights the history from 1995 to the present includes columns written by former Post-Journal sports editor and CSHOF inductee Jim Riggs, who covered minor league baseball in the city for nearly four decades.

The idea for the updated book was the brainchild of local sports historian and CSHOF inductee Greg Peterson. With the financial support of the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, “Our Game” became a reality when it was printed by Falconer Printing and unveiled last October.

Copies of the book are available at the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, located at 15 W. Third St., Jamestown, and at the Tarp Skunks office at Diethrick Park. Cost is $25.

Starting at $3.50/week.
