A local cheerleading gym is making some big noise on a national stage and the owners are reaching out to the community for help in its effort to reach a significant milestone.

The Xplosion All-Stars Cheer, located at 2485 Falconer-Frewsburg Road in Jamestown, is one of 10 gyms in the country that are in the running for a “Cheer Gym Extreme Makeover.”

According to Lisa Perrin, who co-owns the Xplosion All-Stars Cheer with her daughter, Samantha Robinson, a video from their gym was submitted to the Open Championship Series in March and the 10 favorite videos were selected earlier this week. Those top-10 teams now have 10 days to get the most votes possible in an effort to reach the top three. Voting ends June 28 with the top three advancing to the next round. On July 1, the company will announce the top three finishers that move on to the final round, and on July 14, the Cheer Gym Extreme Makeover winner will be announced. Prizes include, among other things, uniforms, equipment, shoes, competition registrations, choreography, make-up, bows, marketing and music.

Voting can be done at the following link: https://openchampionshipseries.com/cheer-gym-extreme-makeover-voting.

That’s pretty cool company for the gym to be in, considering it opened in 2015 with eight cheerleaders. Five years and four facilities later, including what was once a former funeral home, Perrin and Robinson, who also serves as the head coach, have about 100 in the gym, ranging in age from 3 to 18.

Perrin believes the submitted video, which is more than 10 minutes in length, caught the eye of the Open Championship Series because of the “journey” they’ve been on.

“This would really be a reward for our hard work,” she said. “Every time we did registration we didn’t expect another 20 or 30 kids, but as we keep doing it each year, we keep adding and adding.”

Unfortunately, the Xplosion didn’t get a full season of competition this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, at this rate — as of Friday afternoon the Xplosion is in second place — Perrin, Robinson and their cheerleaders, could be in for a very significant “consolation prize.”
