The Un-Evolving Gospel Of Jesus Shold Be Our Guide

To The Reader’s Forum: “Religious freedom is expanding,” said an editorial by Lindsay Lloyd (1/1). He resides not in New York where Governor Hochul arbitrarily issued an indoor public mask edict on everyone under the threat of a $ 1,000 fine. That’s freedom contraction, not expansion. His editorial cited a prominent Dallas pastor responding to the decline of Christianity and the rise of the “nones” who affiliate with no faith and the “dones” who are fininshed with the faith. The pastor said, “We all should be evolving...” “Evolving into what?” I ask. The ...

Mayor Ballot Count Actions Appropriate

To The Reader’s Forum: The Nov. 24th editorial critical of Mayor Eddie Sundquist representing fellow Democrat Regina Brackman at the County Board of Elections absentee vote count and subsequent hand count of all ballots was off the mark. Councilwoman Regina Brackman asked Eddie, an attorney, to represent her and of course he agreed. Eddie has experience in vote counts and given that the absentee ballots added to the vote totals and were critical in the election of his fellow party member, it was obviously a good thing that an experienced lawyer represented Regina in Mayville. Then ...

Lobby Representatives For To Approve New York Health Act To The Reader’s Forum: New Yorkers could have affordable and quality health insurance but politicians are standing in the way. Despite gaining majority support in both the New York State Assembly and Senate, the New York Health Act never made it to a floor vote in either chamber because of Democratic leadership. We have Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, D-The Bronx, and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers, to thank for this. People across the state have horror stories of how inadequate health insurance ...

Health Care Workers Should Be Vaccinated

To The Reader’s Forum: There have now been 14 deaths in the last 14 days in Chautauqua County (September 27, 2021) Today’s paper reports Borrello’s co-sponsorship of a bill to rescind the child care mask mandate. Since the bill won’t even be considered until January, it is clear to me that the sole purpose of the senator’s involvement is to cater to his political base; to say, “See, I care about your ‘freedom’ to defy mandates.” Yes, it’s difficult to keep masks on little kids. But we have to try. There isn’t much else that can be done to protect them. I find ...

Find Humane Solutions To City’s Deer Problem

To The Reader’s Forum: Councilman Tom Nelson’s recent recommendation to shoot Jamestown’s deer with arrows is truly heartbreaking. It has also proven to be an ineffective way to control a deer population. The following is an excerpt from an online letter to the editor written by Brandon Yanak: “(T)here is a misconception that a cull is the only option available. On the contrary, as wildlife biologist Dr. Allen Rutberg has said, ‘The most visible weakness in the assertion that hunting is necessary to control deer population is that it has largely failed to do so over ...
