There Was Nothing Objectionable About Randolph’s Musical

Readers' Forum

To The Reader’s Forum:

I was disconcerted to read about the push back Randolph school received from some residents regarding the recent musical. It truly is the miserable few who try to ruin things for the majority.

I attended the musical and saw nothing wrong with its content. Having been involved in the arts for fifty years, I know how misunderstood it often is, especially in meddling small towns. Critics should find better hobbies to occupy their time instead of attacking the hard work these kids put into their production. The real villains in this scenario are those who misinterpret the meaning of a light-hearted musical and vilify its content, not the cast, director, or school. Shame on anyone who was involved in the petition against the show– all you’re doing is hurting the kids.

At the end of the day, it’s about kids having a creative outlet to express themselves. Some Randolph residents need to get with the times and realize it’s no longer 1958, and to remain relevant and bring in revenue, schools need to produce shows newer than Oklahoma or Annie.
