Hochul Offered A Commision, We Needed A Commitment

To The Reader’s Forum: As the leader of a multi-state long term senior care community in an industry that is fighting for survival, I approach every day with hope and optimism. I had both those feelings as I sat down to listen to Governor Hochul’s State of the State Address. I needed to hear commitment. I left with a commission. I have found his opinions to be unique and a great addition to the regular opinion columns appearing in the P-J. His perspective on the unresolved issues affecting Americans (e.g., human rights, democracy, gun violence, the misinformation crisis and more”) will be missed. The Media May Be Doing Its Job On Hunter Biden Laptop Story

To The Reader’s Forum: Today’s P-J had an opinion piece that put the “media” on what I’ll call a “hit list” over their alleged failure to give prominence to “Hunter Biden’s laptop” and alleged FBI interference in the 2020 election. Thus, the “media” should be perceived to be a “threat”. So, what is the hoopla about? It’s about the factual nature of the laptop and not what information the laptop contained and, therefore, the impact. Why Spend Dollars Globally When There Is So Much Need Here?

To The Reader’s Forum: I read the article in The Post-Journal about “City Prepares For Opening Of Emergency Homeless Sheltering.” I was happy to see that someone was doing something to help our homeless population. Stop and think about the millions and billions of dollars we give other countries. Many of them hate the USA but we still give them money and aid every year. Homelessness in the United States of America, or people without a home, is currently over half a million. Telling Gun Violence Stories Is Good, But Talk About Solutions, Too

To The Reader’s Forum: PBS aired a documentary on October 5 called “Ricochet”, which showed how gun violence affected people - the brother of a deceased suicide victim, parent and sister of a young man who died by suicide, parents of young woman who died at a mass shooting in a theater, a young woman who lost three family members to gun violence, a survivor of a mass shooting at a theater and an ER doctor who, most often, could only console survivors. Thanks To Those Working On Women’s Shelter In Jamestown

To The Reader’s Forum: I am so pleased to see a women’s shelter being established in Jamestown so women with mental health, drug, physical, financial issues will know there is a place with a warm, dry bed to sleep on - if only a cot, bathroom and laundry facilities available - and social workers to help them address their issues - and eventually obtain a job and a permanent place to call home.
