In response to Opinion article published February 11th 2023 “Jamestown Has To Think Outside The Box To Fill Vacancies in Police Department” I would like to provide some updates and facts in regards to filling police officer vacancies within the Jamestown Police Department. For one, an area that has not been mentioned by Mr. Champ, nor the article, is the fact that newly selected officers must be hired off an existing civil service list. To The Reader’s Forum: It is not clean energy! They are not wind farms or solar farms! They are industrial wind factories! Industrial solar factories! Shooting By 6-Year-ls A Simple Issue

To The Reader’s Forum: The Jan. 19 P-J ran an AP article titled, “Shooting By 6-Year-Old Raises Complex Cultural Questions”. I disagree - the issue of the shooting is rather simple. The basic facts are: parents bought a handgun; parents permitted the child access to the handgun at home; the child brought the gun to school: the child shot a teacher. My analysis is that the parents were negligent and should be held accountable, that is, charges filed against them and removal of guns from their possession. It’s really a simple issue. County Should Pursue Airport Marketing Study

To The Reader’s Forum: I am encouraged that the county is talking about a marketing study regarding air service at the Jamestown airport. For years, the tail has wagged the dog ..... getting proposals from airlines about what they wanted to do and where they wanted to fly. It sounds like we are finally talking about asking our flying customers where they want to make connections to, and asking airlines to make proposals to our preferred destination. To The Reader’s Forum: I hope Jamestown folks realize what precious gems you have in the Fenton Museum and History Center. In November, I visited both while staying with friends in Jamestown, where my dad and grandfather grew up. GOP Leaders Should Support Hochul’s Clean Energy Plans

To The Reader’s Forum: “Area leaders applaud Hochul on mental health, not energy” (Jamestown Post-Journal, 1/11) suggests limited bipartisan cooperation is possible in Albany. What’s surprising, though, especially in light of the almost constant barrage of climate disasters faced by New York State since Hurricane Sandy, is the GOP leaders’ intransigence regarding Governor Hochul’s commitment to a clean energy economy transition.
