City Council Should Avoid Climate Smart Communities Pledge

Readers' Forum

To The Reader’s Forum:

Jamestown City Council put readers on notice that it is taking the first step to considering implementation of the New York State Climate Smart Communities pledge. Council must say NO to participating in this pledge. Here’s why.

In addressing the issue of climate change, longitudinal data must be examined over a period of at least several decades. We have data from multiple decades to more than a hundred years. Importantly, within the data, a statistical trend line must be observed indicating increase in the climate aspect being studied. Where no trend line is present, the message is: No escalation; no climate change.

The following aspects of climate have been studied and graphed: drought; tornadoes; hurricanes (at near-record low in 2022); wildland fires; snowfall; and global temperatures. Drought figures have been graphed since 1890. Tornadoes since 1954. The overall measured temperature has been graphed for over a century. Significantly: No trend lines are revealed! Message? No runaway global warming. CO2 is demonized even though the global temperature has not increased.

From where is climate hysteria originating? The American people have been victims of climate fraud – a hoax! According to Investor’s Business Daily, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) adjusted temperatures year after year to “fit the global warming narrative.” Result? Climate fraud. Americans have been victimized! Why would NOAA bureaucrats do this? Money. Recipients of funding must be politically correct, not necessarily scientifically correct. But even NOAA admitted there has been no global warming for the past eight years (Salgado, PJ Media, 2-4-23).

We see how under the Biden/Hochul ideology the true scientific data are ignored, succumbing to the false narrative of climate change. Biden and Hochul are pushing this narrative upon communities across New York and America, no matter the grossly negative consequences and economic disaster awaiting.

City principal planner Ellen Shadle, speaking out of both sides of her mouth, said: “It’s not going to be an action plan [for the New York State Climate Smart Communities pledge] specifically,” she said, “but a framework that would inform a subsequent action plan.”

Surdyk warns that “we’re going to look to make decisions about our future through this lens.”

Folks, our community is on the first steps to a very slippery slope, leading to eventual full participation in this climate hoax. Please, have some honesty, city bureaucrats.

Jamestown City Council needs to say NO to such Orwellian doublespeak.
