Alleged Probation Absconder Takes Fight To Appeals Court

The state Attorney General’s office is asking the state Supreme Court to dismiss an Article 78 lawsuit filed by a former city resident who is trying to avoid arrest on bench warrants that have been issued for him. Patrick Dhondt, now of Newark, N.Y., filed suit against Judge George Panebianco and Judge John LaMancuso, both of Jamestown City Court, asking the court to vacate or delay bench warrants issued due to previous failures to appear in court. Tax On Vacation Homes Could Hit South County

Some state legislative Democrats are proposing extending Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposing a pied-à-terre tax on second homes in New York City. Hochul’s proposal would apply to properties that sell for more than $5 million that are not rented out full-time or listed as the owner’s primary residence. The proposal to extend the pied-a-terre tax statewide hasn’t had legislation drafted yet because discussions have informally been held as part of state budget negotiations. Jamestown police are investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday night on East Eighth Street near Fulton Street and another shooting near the 7-11 store on North Main Street. Officers responded to the area at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a shooting that had just taken place.
