Matt Ekstrom is a man known to always be willing to help others, and now it is his turn for that same help as he faces two different types of cancer.

A benefit for Ekstrom is set for Sunday at the Celeron Legion, 26 Jackson Avenue, supported by the Brothers By Choice. The benefit will be a spaghetti dinner from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will also include a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, and live music.

Amanda Echard with Brothers By Choice said Ekstrom is facing both stage four kidney cancer and stage three squamous cancer that is affecting his lymph nodes. Ekstrom is facing issues with his treatment and in his throat, where it swells shut and he has to go and get it stretched. Ekstrom is also in need of financial help, which Echard said they are looking to do through the benefit.

“Matt is such a great person, and always volunteers his time to help others,” Echard said. “He is a strong, stubborn man that is always looking to support others. I had brain cancer, and we met at another benefit. I mentioned wanting to do a benefit for him now, and the Brothers By Choice wanted to help. He is a wonderful man, and we look up to him for his strength and determination.”

Echard said Ekstrom is one that is always giving back to others, and now it is his turn. Specifically, she said having this benefit is important to help him financially, but also to show him the love and support he is always giving to others.

Even if someone does not have the ability to come and donate at the benefit, Echard said they can still come and visit.

“We just want to show Matt the love and support he is always giving to others,” Echard said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
