FREDONIA — All hands were on deck for a structure fire Tuesday at 19 Central Ave. in the village.
According to Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers, all residents were able to exit the building shortly after the fire ignited before 11 a.m. One resident was treated and transported to Brooks-TLC Hospital for smoke inhalation. Additionally, one firefighter was also taken to the hospital for a minor injury.
“Everyone was out by the time we arrived at the scene,” Myers said.
He also noted that multiple pets were rescued from the building during the incident.
Myers stated that the Fredonia Fire Department arrived to find fire on the second floor. The fire later spread upward through the inside of the building. The Fredonia Fire Department called on mutual aid to help combat the fire.
“We conducted an offensive attack that required extensive overhaul of the structure,” Myers noted.
Firefighters were observed climbing a ladder to access the roof of the building. A vehicle’s apparatus was also used to access the top floor of the building. Smoke was emitted from the top floor of the building consistently for over an hour.
