STOCKTON — A Bemus Point woman was killed in an early morning crash Thursday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash on Route 380 in the town of Stockton was reported to the Sheriff’s Office around 5:51 a.m. Deputies, along with Stockton volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel, arrived to find that one vehicle was involved in the incident.

The driver, 46-year-old Stacey A. Grimes, was pronounced dead at the scene by a county coroner.

An investigation determined that Grimes was northbound on Route 380 when she failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Route 380 was closed to traffic for about two and a half hours for the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said Thursday in a statement.

Deputies were assisted by Stockton firefighters, the Coroner’s Office, county Department of Public Facilities crews and the county Fire Police Team.
