City discusses National Night Out plans

Plans are coming together for Jamestown’s first National Night Out event after a lengthy break from the event.

The National Night Out has been an event held in years past in the city of Jamestown, and while it has been a while the city is looking to hold the event again at the beginning of August.

The event was part of the special events section that came before the City Council’s Public Safety Committee this week. Councilman Tony Dolce, R-Ward 2 and Public Safety Committee chair, said that in the past the event was held in multiple locations and neighborhoods across the city, but with trying to resurrect the event it will be in one location. National Night Out will be on Aug. 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., including set up and tear down, at Bergman Park. The event itself begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m.

“There’s an opportunity for organizations to have tables at the event,” Police Chief Scott Forster said. “We will have a Neighborhood Watch table to pass out more information and try to get more groups involved.”

Kasie Foulk, city deputy development director, said 15 organizations are coming and will have tables with different types of social resources and information at them. The event will also include music, lawn games, giveaways and prizes, along with the community resource tables. A specific Neighborhood Watch workshop with the Jamestown Police Department is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

“There will be hot dogs,” Foulk said. “Crystal (Surdyk, city development director) and I will be on the grill.”

Any organization interested in tabling at the event can contact Foulk and the Department of Development at foulk@jamestownny.gov. National Night Out is a family friendly, free event.

Starting at $4.00/week.
