Prendergast Library Announces Programs

The James Prendergast Library is open again and resuming free programming for all ages as well as creating new programs.

Offerings include:

PROGRAMS FOR

CHILDREN

Storytime: Tuesdays 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Themes are intended for preschool, with children under 8 and their caregivers welcome.

Sensory Storytime: Wednesdays 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sensory story time combines a story time activity and song favorites with different types of sensory input. Patrons of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Lapsit Storytime: Tuesdays 9:30 to 10 a.m. Pre-walking patrons are invited to sit on their accompanying adult’s lap for story time. Designed with the youngest patrons in mind, the sensorimotor storytime features high contrast books, activities and bonding time. Walking and older toddlers encouraged to attend 10:30 a.m. story times. For more information call 484-7135, ext. 253.

Littles Playgroup: Fridays 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Children ages 3 and under are welcome to visit the Community Room to explore baby and toddler toys. Drop in to play and chat, no sign-up needed.

Makerspace: Staff-led Activities and Open Play. The Makerspace has open play scheduled on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff led activities are offered on Mondays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The Makerspace is often available for impromptu use. Ask staff if the Makerspace is available. Children 8 and under must be supervised.

Minecraft Club: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Some Minecraft experience is recommended. Minecraft Club is for children ages 8 and up. Tuesday is Free Play: Self-directed Minecraft; kids are invited to lead their own Minecraft Club, and Thursday is staff-led: Staff will continue to alternate Creative and Survival modes.

NEW PROGRAMS FOR TEENS AND ADULTS

Early Birds: Fridays 9:30 to 11:30 a.m Drop in on Friday mornings for snacks and relaxing activities. Early Birds invites attendees to socialize and enjoy light refreshments. The group will explore relaxing ways to keep the mind active like puzzles, coloring, crafting, card games, and more. Activity suggestions are welcomed.

Meet and Make: Crafting for ages 14 and up. Bead weaving is Oct. 13 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and wire weaving is Oct. 24 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The meet and make time is a free, semimonthly specialty crafting programming. No experience is necessary and no registration needed. Call 484-7135, ext. 226, for more information.

Curiosity Club, ages 14 and up, is held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Curiosity Club invites patrons to experience new interests for four to six weeks. The time includes light refreshments and is an opportunity to learn more about activities Jamestown has to offer. October through November will feature “no experience needed” programs about poetry, including writing, publishing, making art with poetry and sharing poetry.

Teen Lounge: Fridays 4 to 6 p.m. Teens 14 through 18 are invited to enjoy snacks in the lobby and then take over Makerspace. Listen to records and experiment with blacklights.
