Busti sets slate of summer concerts

BUSTI – Sponsors Busti Hamlet Development Association and Chautauqua Region Community Foundation announce the “Summer Concerts at the Busti Gazebo”. The concert schedule is as follows: July 11 with Check 1, 2, 3; July 18 with Pat Cook with guest John Savage; Aug. 8 with Old Dawg Blue Grass; Aug. 15 with Rustic Ramblers; Aug. 22 with Kokomo Band; and finishing on Aug. 25 with Happy Days. The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own chairs and plan on enjoying an evening of friendship and great music.

PVCS updates policy on free meals

SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley Central School District announced an amendment to its policy for serving meals for children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2026-2027 school year, which would allow for all children at all schools/sites to be served meals at no charge.

Ripley school board sets meeting

RIPLEY — The reorganizational meeting of the Board of Education of the Ripley Central School District will be held on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A public hearing will immediately follow the reorganizational meeting for the purpose of presenting the draft of the 2026-2027 District-Wide Safety Plans. The regular Board of Education meeting for the purposes of any and all items that come before the board will immediately follow the public hearing. All three meetings will take place in Room 119 of the Ripley Central School.

Quilt Guild to meet Wednesday

BUSTI — The Chautauqua Region Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday at the Busti 5 Corners Community Church. This month we will be having our Ice Cream Social beginning at 6 p.m. with its annual scholarship to be awarded to an area youth during our business meeting at 6:30. It has been interesting to meet scholarship recipients and learn what their plans for the future are.

Erie Traveling Zoo coming to library

ELLINGTON – Ellington Farman Library will be offering their first event for the Summer Reading season on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m..The Erie Traveling Zoo will be at the library with their “Unearth a Story: Meet the Living Dinosaurs” program. How do scientists learn about dinosaurs and ancient worlds when no one was there to see them? They read clues hidden in the Earth — just like reading a story! In this interactive, family-friendly program, meet live animals from the zoo and discover how reptiles, birds, and even insects alive today help scientists unearth stories from millions of years ago. Perfect for curious kids and families! There is no registration required for this free event. All families attending will be given a children’s book on a dinosaur theme and each child will receive a dinosaur hatching egg novelty item while supplies last. There will be various dinosaur and fossil themed books available for checking out with a valid library card from any library within the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Library system.

Panama Alumni Gathering will be Saturday

PANAMA — The Panama Central School Alumni Gathering will be on Saturday at the new gymnasium at PCS, 41 North St. Those interested in touring the school should meet at 11 a.m. Registration for the gathering will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the Ashville General Store catering the event. The Gathering Committee spearheaded by Sid Wheeler will have a brief program honoring the veterans present and this year\’s scholarship recipients, Abigail Bullaro and Sarah Golden, and awarding prizes. As a fund-raiser for future scholarships, donated baskets will be auctioned and a 50/50 raffle will be held.

Christian Women group plans July 14 lunch

Jamestown-Warren Christian Women were treated in June to a fashion show by the volunteer ladies of the Outpost in Sugar Grove. The brainstorm of Rev. Billy Hughes and Sharon Hughes, the monies raised from this thrift store, celebrating 21 years, serving the community, has become the Hughes’ ministry alongside the Sugar Grove Free Methodist to give back to their community including the dozens of non-profit organizations benefiting from the store’s sales. One person’s trash becomes another’s treasure. A percentage of donations go towards missions, and monies help human trafficking rescues,local fire dept., the homeless, women’s shelters, those displaced or evicted from.homes, animal shelters and veterans groups to name a few. The next July 14 noon luncheon of Village Missions will be held at Praise Fellowship Church, Russell, with speaker Donna Hart of Jamestown and Bob Evertsen, Warren, playing instrumental music. Hazeltine Library Summer Programs Begin July 7

BUSTI – Summer programs at the Hazeltine Public Library begin Tuesday, July 7. Programs will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays. The July 7 program features historical toys, games and crafts presented by Victoria Parker from the Busti Historical Society. July 14 will be the animals from the Audubon Community Nature Center including a collection of turtles, snakes and insects. July 21 is the only event that requires reservations, a cookies and cars activity; each child is invited to bring their favorite doll, action figure, stuffed animal to the tea party. Dress up is optional. Stories and crafts and refreshments from earlier times will be featured. July 28 is a Pinata party, on Aug. 4 the instructors from Infinity will bring musical instruments for all to experiment with followed by chalk art on Aug. 11 and rock painting Aug. 18. Events are free and open to the public. Only July 21 requires a reservation by calling the library at 716-487-1281. The Hazeltine Public Library is located at 891 Busti-Sugar Grove Road, Busti.

Tween Tuesday at Prendergast Library

On July 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 pm, Prendergast Library is running Tween Tuesday! New for Summer Reading, attendees will be building LEGO Race cars from scratch and see whose car will be the fastest! This program is intended for ages 10-13. (Teens can join the fun in their own Game Night on the last Wednesday of each month.)

There is no cost to attend this program, which will be held in the library’s downstairs Conference Lab.

Donations of Retired Flags are Needed

Girl Scouts of Western New York’s Horton Hill Day Camp is looking for donations of retired American flags for their annual Flag Burning Ceremony. No longer usable cotton household flags can be brought to the donation box at the Girl Scout Service Center on 2661 Horton Road, Jamestown. Please donate flags before July 7.
