Mary Patricia Boland

She was born June 27, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, NY and was the first-born child of the late Peter and Phoebe (Cummings) Rohan.

Following her graduation from St. Mary’s College, Mary served as an elementary teacher in the Diocese of Buffalo from 1955 through 2007. She continued to work with EduKids until her 90th birthday. Following her move to Jamestown from Hamburg in 2012, she volunteered at Comfort Today for a few years.

Mary was a woman of strong faith. She attended Saint’s Peter & Paul in Hamburg and Sacred Heart in Lakewood. She enjoyed hosting parties for her friends and social activities with her neighbors. She especially enjoyed boat rides in the summer with her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Boland, whom she married in 1945 and who passed away in 1986. She was also preceded by a grandson, Christopher Shaffer, and seven siblings.

Surviving are her three children: Maureen Baird of Hattiesburg, MI, John Boland of Cleveland, OH, and James (Sue) Boland of Lakewood, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ketherine (Kevin) Kuehn, John Boland III, James “J. Patrick” Boland, Daniel (Tricia) Boland, Mary (Blake) Roberts, and Laura (Peter) Borgia; eleven great-grandchildren; and three sisters.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9 2026 at Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. for one hour prior to the service. Please dress in colorful attire for the funeral as Mary would love that.
