Busti Historical Society Celebrates Victorian Dinner

Guests adorned in Victorian Era attire during the Busti Historical Society's annual Victorian Dinner.

The Busti Historical Society held its annual Victorian Dinner June 13.

Current historical society members, history buffs and interested community members were in attendance for a night of period inspired dishes, music and fun.

The event is put on each year by the historical society as both a fundraiser and a celebration of local history. The evening began with music from local old-time string band Alleghany Crossing with pieces from the Victorian era. Dinner followed, crafted by Catering Plus of Sugar Grove, Pa., consisting of courses similar to what a Busti family during the Victorian area would have served.

Bob Schultz, president of the Busti Historical Society, kicked off the event with information on the society and fellow historical societies from Sherman and Scandia. Judy Schultz, historical society member, shared a brief discussion following dinner on the customs of the Victorian era and the relevance of the produce and menu items selected. Various historical society members came to the event dressed for the occasion in period appropriate attire.

All proceeds from the event directly benefit projects and programs of the Busti Historical Society, including the annual Busti Apple Festival. The society wishes to thank local businesses Tolman Engineering, T&S Machine, Peterson Candies and Wegmans for sponsoring the festivities.

Established in 1972, the Busti Historical Society is the result of the local community’s enthusiasm for the area mill. Currently the society maintains the restored Grist Mill, one of the few remaining operating mills in New York state as well as the annual Busti Apple Festival held the last Sunday in September.

The historical society is also working to restore the Miller’s House, located across from the grist mill, to the Victorian period, with plans to host future events and community gatherings.
