Herington Named To 6th Team In Class AAA

Skylar Herington was a Class C first-team all-state selection a season ago.
After transferring to St. Mary’s of Lancaster over the summer, the former Randolph Cardinal is garnering large-school attention this year.
Herington was the lone local girls basketball player honored Monday as the New York State Sportswriters Association named her a sixth-team selection in Class AAA.
As a junior for the Lancers, Herington averaged 11.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.3 assists per game.
Herington’s sophomore teammate Mila Bissett was named to the second team and junior teammate Celsy Colombo was named to the fourth team while St. Mary’s freshman Makayla Scott-Bush received honorable-mention recognition.
Other Section VI players to receive Class AAA honors included: West Seneca junior Bellarose Milligan (seventh team) and West Seneca senior Ava Gunnells (12th team). Senior Julia Scott of Section I’s Albertus Magnus was the Player of the Year.
North Tonawanda senior Annabelle Day was named the Player of the Year in Class AA. Williamsville East junior Julie Cruz was named to the first team, North Tonawanda sophomore Lilly Day was named to the second team, North Tonawanda senior Jakayla Brown was named to the fourth team, Amherst junior Taryn Ashley was named to the seventh team and Sacred Heart senior Makenna Chamberlain was named to the 11th team. Honorable-mention selections included: Cardinal O’Hara senior Elonna McGriff, Amherst sophomore Lucy Giordano, Amherst senior Ada Radomski, Hamburg junior Ally Smith, Orchard Park junior Caroline Brown and Orchard Park junior Ella Hernandez.
In Class A, Iroquois junior Kendall Hulsman was named to the second team, Depew junior Olivia Leazott was named to the seventh team and Starpoint junior Natalie Prezioso was named to the 12th team. Honorable-mention selections included: Mt. Mercy senior Claire Przybyszewski, Mount St. Mary’s junior Ava Cavarello, Lewiston-Porter junior Jianna Jacobs, Williamsville South senior Tessa Petrie, Depew junior Ashley Codr and Lake Shore junior Katsi Jackson. Senior Ella Trinkaus of Section III’s Utica Notre Dame was named the Player of the Year.
