Opera House Cinema Series To Screen Amy Winehouse Documentary

FREDONIA – The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is “Amy,” the documentary about troubled British jazz/pop/soul singer Amy Winehouse. It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

From British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award-winning director Asif Kapadia, “Amy” tells the story of six-time Grammy Award-winner Amy Winehouse – in her own words. The film features unseen archival footage and previously unheard tracks.

Winehouse died at age 27, and the documentary was released four years later. Rated R for language and drug material, “Amy” runs 128 minutes.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and Opera House members, and $5 for students the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 679-1891. The series continues with “Mr. Holmes,” starring Ian McKellen, on Aug. 29 and Sept. 1.

The Opera House is equipped with individualized closed captioning headsets for the deaf as well as with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or Opera House staff member. Headset funding was provided by Robert and Marilyn Maytum, the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust, the Dunkirk-Fredonia Lions Club, and by a grant from Theatre Development Fund’s TAP Plus program in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia.

Starting at $3.50/week.
