Dixiecats To Perform Friday In City

The First Covenant Church Jazz Concert Series will feature the Dixiecats on Friday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m.

Area clarinetist John Cross, will host the event at First Covenant Church, 520 Spring St., Jamestown.

The Dixiecats will feature pianist and organist Roberta (Bobbie) Lange, who has a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan. She has decades of experience as a church musician, accompanist, piano and organ teacher. Lange has performed extensively throughout the Midwest and has just moved to the Jamestown area this year.

Recently she played piano for Panama Central School’s production of “James and the Giant Peach,” performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and even played in an Elvis tribute band. From classical repertoire to Dixieland jazz Lange performs with technical virtuosity, elegance and style.

The Dixiecats will play a variety of New Orleans second line and traditional jazz favorites including Joe Avery Blues, Frankie and Johnnie, South Rampart Street Parade and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.

Other members of the Dixiecats include John Cross on clarinet, Doug Schutte and Aidan Chamberlain on trombone, Norm Lydell on tuba and Craig Ridgway on drums.

The concert is free to the public with a free will offering.
