Sending A Thank You To Public Servants

To The Reader’s Forum: TIME magazine, besides naming its “Person of the Year”, also named public servants, especially federal employees, as “Guardians of the Year”. TIME recognized the importance of the oath taken by federal employees to protect and preserve the US Constitution, and how certain federal employees, both career and appointed, stood by that oath as they testified before Congress in its formal inquiry into the eventual impeachment of president Trump. As a former federal employee, I understand the gravity of taking the same oath to protect government ...

The Same Promise To ‘Root Out Corruption’

To The Reader’s Forum: On Christmas Eve the news media, all in the same words, carried the message. The Democratic Party or government (same thing now) in Albany, so the story led off, is going to “root out corruption.” I swoon. In the joy of the holiday season, I picture the Democrats rooting and sniffing and grubbing like pigs rooting out all that corruption, corruption like voting Republican or even worse, far worse, voting for some minor party — hated nonconformists. One thing we won’t tolerate in this age of tolerance and land of diversity is anybody ...

Read The Reports On The Health Of The Lake

To The Reader’s Forum: Two reports were sent out this month concerning the health of Lake Chautauqua, specifically referencing the use of herbicides last summer. Read them. The Shed Sheet should be renamed, Bull Shed is more fitting. What a hoax they spread claiming the use of herbicides last summer was ineffective. To begin, please do not believe for one minute they “partnered” with the CLP. We who fought for, begged for, waited for our lake to be treated, thus usable, remember the Watershed Conservancy blocking every effort to bring the lake back to life. More importantly, ...

Impeachment Is A Tool In The Political Toolbox

To The Reader’s Forum: It appears, after reading “Reed Says Impeachment Circus on Full Display”, Mr. Reed does not understand the Constitution, the Impeachment process, nor the oath he took when he was sworn into office. He laments the Impeachment process is going to become “another tool in the political toolbox”. Impeachment IS a tool in the political toolbox. The founders wrote it into our Constitution for a reason. They feared a lawless and tyrannical leader might gain the massive powers of the Presidency and would be so corrupt he would need to be removed before the end ...

The President, The Man

To The Reader’s Forum: Wow! Deann Nelson comes out swinging in response to Derek Smith’s op-ed, “Realizing Trump Is America” (Nov. 16-17, 2019). Citing “mind-boggling stereotypical characterizations and platitudes, lack of critical thinking and statements made without any supporting evidence,” Nelson’s over-reaction is a prime example of the charged environment today in America. And that is just the first sentence of her scathing response! As is her right, Nelson eagerly jumps to the defense of the President, but unfortunately misses the point of Smith’s op-ed. ...

Greed Preserves The Gas Prices

To The Reader’s Forum: Why haven’t gas prices changed? Greed! Our so called refining friends to the south fill a tanker truck up with about 8,000 gallons of that precious fuel and then pay a man to drive it 226 miles east to Binghamton and back, then sell it for a full 30 cents a gallon less than in the Jamestown area. I am willing to bet their making pretty good money in the Binghamton market. Imagine what they are making in the Jamestown area? Not exactly the apple of my eye. It smacks of silent collusion amongst them and their peers. Brad Walters Bemus Point
